Guwahati, November 1, 2021: Stars of North East India (SONEI) is a registered public charitable trust based in Guwahati that works for unearthing and showcasing of talents in the society. SONEI’s various projects touch the life of people residing in various parts of North East India. One of the avowed projects of SONEI is the “Star Talk” series under which professionals share their expertise for the benefit of the society. Initiated in August 2017, a large number of professionals have taken part in this project and spoken on diverse topics such as human rights, theatre, biotechnology, mixed martial arts, disaster management, and folk culture etc.

A discourse on “Digital Technology: An Enabler for Everyone” was organised by SONEI on Sunday under the Star Talk series. Initiating the discourse, Abu Zakaria, custom software developer (mobile &web) and Google certified cloud architect, said, “Every person irrespective of their specialisation can earn a living through technology.”Babiba Sultana, consumer value optimisation specialist, was of the view that just a FB profile and the product are sufficient for marketing on the social media. She said, what is important is that one should know about the target audience.

Taking part in the webinar, Subhankar Banerjee, leading PR consultant and winner of PRCI-2021 and Chanakya award, stated, “The role of PR has evolved with the emergence of social media/digital media. So, it is important for the service providers to understand the platform they are suggesting to their client.” Syed Mohsin Raja, digital media educator and alumni of London School of Business & Finance, was of the view that conversation is becoming the centre space in social media, while digital marketing is all about specifications. Additional inputs were provided by SMS Askari, Asstt Professor (IT), Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh; Dr Rezaul Karim, Asstt Professor, Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University, Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia; and Shayesta Kibriya, former IT Consultant, Melbourne University, Australia.

While summing up, Anisul Hoque, Brand Communication & Marketing Consultant and anchor of the programme, expressed the opinion that while digital technology should be used for making life better, mankind should not become the slave of technology. His last words were, “Let’s remain human at the core and digital at the fore.” The webinar was hosted by Suaid M Laskar, Information Systems Management alumni of University of Huddersfield, UK. The webinar ended with a vote of thanks offered by Nasima Parveen Aman.
